All too often,

emotional pain is difficult to see past. We can't pretend it's not there as it will only surface in some uncomfortable way. We can't live for extended periods of time in it as it will eventually manifest enough dis-ease to create disease. There are thoughts that can be thought.

We can remember that thought is controllable. We can accept the situation or the moment, the 'what is' and decide to not spend another dime of time on it. We can practice gratitude in those moments and throughout to shift our perception. We can learn to consciously view time as the only real currency we own. We can then appreciate how precious it is, thereby making the present too valuable to spend in emotional pain.
